Dalton State CollegeIssues Graduation Diplomas to Class of 2021
On the sunnyafternoon of May 8th, 2021, graduates of Dalton State College inGeorgia walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. The event,which was held at the Mashburn Outdoor Theatre on the Dalton Statecampus, marked the end of a journey for many students who had workedtirelessly over the past few years to earn their degrees.
Dalton State Collegeis a public, co-educational institution located in the small town ofDalton, Georgia. It was founded in 1963 and has since grown to becomeone of the most respected schools in the region. The college is knownfor its dedication to academic excellence, as well as its focus onstudent success and community engagement.
The 2021 graduatingclass at Dalton State College included over 500 students who hadearned degrees ranging from associates to bachelors. Family membersand friends of the graduates filled the 1,000-seat Mashburn OutdoorTheatre to watch the ceremony, which was also livestreamed for thosewho were unable to attend in person.
The keynote speakerfor the event was Dr. Blakeley Hoffman, the Executive Director of theGeorgia Board of Regents. In her speech, she congratulated thegraduates on their achievements and encouraged them to use theeducation they had received at Dalton State to make a positive impacton the world.
“Your time atDalton State has equipped you with the skills and knowledge necessaryto succeed in any field you choose,” she said. “But moreimportantly, it has taught you the value of hard work, perseverance,and community. Never forget that you are part of a community oflearners who will support and encourage you throughout your journey.”
Several graduateswere recognized during the ceremony for their outstandingaccomplishments. Brittany Welch, who earned a bachelor's degree inaccounting, was presented with the Outstanding Senior Award. Theaward recognizes a student who has demonstrated academic excellence,leadership, and community engagement during their time at DaltonState.
In addition tocelebrating the accomplishments of the graduates, the ceremony alsomarked the end of an era for Dalton State College. Dr. MargaretVenable, who has served as the college's president since 2016,announced that she would be retiring at the end of the academic year.
“Today marks a newbeginning for all of you as you embark on the next chapter of yourlives,” she said. “For me, it marks the end of an incrediblejourney. I have been honored to serve as your president, and I willalways cherish the memories I have made here at Dalton StateCollege.”
The 2021 graduationceremony was a reminder of the resilience and determination of thehuman spirit. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic,Dalton State College graduates persevered and achieved their goals.As they begin the next chapter of their lives, they can take pride inknowing that they have the knowledge, skills, and community supportnecessary to succeed in whatever they choose to do.
