Cal State FullertonIssues Graduation Diplomas to Class of 2021
On May 22, 2021,California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) held its graduationceremony for the class of 2021. This year's commencement was heldvirtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite thechallenges posed by the pandemic, CSUF's class of 2021 demonstratedremarkable resilience and perseverance in completing their degrees.The university conferred over 12,000 degrees to undergraduate andgraduate students during the ceremony.
In his address tothe graduates, CSUF President Fram Virjee acknowledged theunprecedented nature of the past year and praised the graduates fortheir dedication in completing their studies. "You have facedunprecedented challenges in your final year as Titans, but you havedemonstrated exceptional perseverance, resilience, adaptivity andcreativity in response," he said.
The virtual ceremonyfeatured various speakers, including student speakers CassandraSanchez and Nicholas Lopez, who delivered inspiring and heartfeltspeeches to their fellow graduates.
Sanchez, whograduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration, spokeabout the personal growth and development she experienced during hertime at CSUF. "We came here hoping to gain knowledge, but leftwith much more – experiences, skills, and confidence," shesaid.
Lopez, who earned amaster's degree in mechanical engineering, spoke about the importanceof community and collaboration. "Our success is not solely ourown. We are a product of our support systems – our family, friends,and mentors," he said.
In addition to thespeakers, the virtual ceremony also featured musical performances bythe CSUF Symphony Orchestra and the university's choir. The onlineplatform allowed graduates and their families to participate in theceremony from the safety and comfort of their own homes.
Although this year'scommencement was held virtually, CSUF's class of 2021 still had theopportunity to celebrate their achievements in person. The universityorganized a "Grad Walk" event, where graduates were able towalk across a stage, receive their diploma cover, and take photoswith their families and friends.
Despite thechallenges posed by the pandemic, CSUF's class of 2021 was able tograduate and continue on their paths to success. The university'scommitment to its students and their success was evident throughoutthe virtual ceremony and the "Grad Walk" event.
As CSUF PresidentFram Virjee said in his address to the graduates, "Youraccomplishments today will be a forever part of the shaping of ourhistory, and the history of this region, this state and this nation.You will forever be a shining example of the Titan spirit that willalways define us as a university, as a community, and as humanbeings."
